...thanks to climate change. Climate Activist— Is your favorite fall tradition threatened by climate change?
Every autumn came one of my favorite parts of my childhood. We'd all pile into the car and drive out to the orchard, where miles of trees stretched out all around us. There, we'd fill our bags with perfect, ruby apples, and my father would hoist me on his shoulders to grab the best ones, way up out of reach.
To this day, my mom packs up and sends me a box of orchard apples every fall. When I bite into that crisp, tart fruit, all of those memories come flooding back. For a split second, I'm not in the kitchen of a studio apartment in a city—I'm running around a lush orchard with my big sisters.
But thanks to climate change, my favorite fall tradition is at risk. Is yours?
You know it as well as I do: the world is changing. Throughout the continental U.S., autumn has been arriving later and later—to the point where leaves are now falling off their trees about ten days later than they did twenty years ago.
These changes—along with the challenges of new, more extreme weather—are taking their toll on everything from football to foliage.
So as the leaves finally start to turn, we've pulled together our 5 favorite fall traditions at risk from climate change. Did any of your fall favorites make the list?
Thank you for your activism and support,
