Another day, another attack on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
A new bill, H.R. 3641: EPA Maximum Achievable Contraction of Technocrats Act of 2013, would slash EPA staff by 15%.
This comes at a time when the EPA’s workforce is already at 20-year low—and its funding is near an all-time low as a percentage of GDP. These cuts have already forced the EPA to reduce planned enforcement activities in the coming year.
We simply cannot let these threats go unanswered.
Your year-end donation to EDF, matched $2-for-$1 this month only, will help us defend the EPA against these outrageous attacks.
Even as we celebrate recent encouraging progress—from doubled fuel economy standards for passenger vehicles to the country’s first-ever limits on carbon pollution for new power plants—the dirty energy industry and their friends in Congress are working tirelessly to turn back the clock on our hard-won victories.
Will you take a stand against industry bullying by making a tax-deductible donation to EDF this month?
H.R. 3641’s sponsor, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-WV), is using loaded phrases like accusing the Obama EPA of “waging a war on coal,” and is trying to position his bill as some sort of compromise—the alternative, of course, being that we just shut down the EPA altogether.
This is the kind of nonsensical extremism we’re up against. And we need your help to stop these and other similar assaults in their tracks.
Please take advantage of our limited-time matching gift opportunity. Your donation of $25 will be worth $75 to protect the victories we worked so long and so hard to achieve...but we must receive it by December 31.
Thank you for all your support,
 Emily Stevenson Manager, Online Membership
P.S. Remember, your gift received by December 31 will be matched not once, but TWICE! Your gift of $25 will be matched first by the High Meadows Foundation, and second by an EDF member like Judy R. of Washington, DC, who spoke of the importance defending the EPA when she left this message for you:
"EDF is best known for helping to stop global warning, working towards green energy and helping to protect our oceans and lands from groups seeking to do harm to these areas. They are doing so much to help defend EPA against political groups seeking to cut or eliminate EPA's authority in areas concerning global warming. Any donation to EDF will be well spent." |
